About Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith (MGKV), Varanasi
You may have heard about MGKV but by the name of just ‘Kashi Vidyapeeth’. Founded in 1921, during the Non-Cooperation Movement, by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt and Bhagwan Das, the university was inaugurated in 1925 by Mahatma Gandhi. That’s when it got its name as Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith.
Its faculty has included prominent nationalists and scholars like Dr. Rajendra Prasad (the first President of India), Acharya Narendra Dev (a famous freedom fighter, journalist, and teacher), and many more. The first board of management of the university included the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Jamuna Lal Bajaj.

Founded in 2000 as Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU), Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow got its present name in 2015.
