Be cheerful

Cheerful, Supportive, and Grateful – The Three Keys to a Happy Life

Table of Contents

If you begin your day each morning with a positive vibe, it sets you up as the sort of person to whom stress and trouble and problems are like water off a duck’s back. You thus get a reputation as being someone who is in control, smooth, relaxed, confident, and very mature.

How does being cheerful changes your life?

Be cheerful at all times.  Being cheerful helps your mind to see the possibilities in the worst of situations; it makes other people in your company confident. Being cheerful is not being comical or fooling around. It is a state of mind. It is a part of our attitude. And it is a trait that can be acquired.

Being cheerful puts you in a positive frame of mind and vice versa. The positivity of being cheerful affects your surroundings positively and also influences people.

Trick Yourself to Be Cheerful

Smile releases hormones that makes you feel joyful

Maintaining a cheerful and positive outlook is a trick. At first, you don’t have to believe it, just do it. Act it. Pretend. But do it. After a little while, you’ll find it is not an act, you are not pretending anymore. You genuinely feel cheerful.

It’s a trick!

You are tricking yourself, no one else. Putting on a smile triggers hormones. All it takes is the first few days of smiling when you don’t feel like it and you will start a cycle going that will make you feel better all the time.

Once you are seen as someone cheerful and positive, people will want to hang out with you more – there is nothing as attractive as a cheerful person.

Express Your Cheerfulness

Decorate your workplace or your study table with flowers or knick-knacks that make it look attractive and cheerful.

When people ask, “How are you?”, remember they don’t really want to know how is your health or how bad you are feeling. It is just an expression that is generally used as a method of wishing someone. Hence, you should always respond as “Fine”, “Really good”, or “Doing great!”.

Accept Challenges as Opportunities to Grow

Turn challenges into opportunities

The real challenge to this attitude of staying cheerful is the load of work. How do you respond when you are given extra work? Are you forthcoming in your approach or do you grumble and complain? Do you hide behind someone to avoid being given the responsibility or do you consider it as a great opportunity to learn and grow?

A cheerful person would take everything in his stride. A cheerful person with a positive attitude never loses any battle in life. He will always find the winning elements even in the worst of losses.

Stand Up for Others

A positive and cheerful person also stands up for others, particularly for those who cannot stand themselves. Standing up for others no matter what gets you a reputation as someone who is genuinely caring and supportive and has the courage to stand up for what they believe in.

Also, complementing others and saying nice things about others is a great way to show your support. It is amazing how quickly the word will spread that you are a thoroughly nice person – you don’t bitch, you don’t moan, you stand up for the underdog, you are supportive, and can always see at least one good point in a thoroughly bad apple.

When you learn to always find a reason to compliment people sincerely, you will not have to fake appreciation anymore. You will be able to discover appreciable qualities in people.

The keyword here is “sincerely”. You should be generous with compliments and appreciation, but never ever give a false or fake compliment. Even if others don’t notice it, the person being complimented would know it and he will certainly not respect you for that. He will mark you as a fake and false person.

Say ‘Please’ and ‘Thank You’

Say 'Please' and 'Thank You'

Never underestimate the power of ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. It’s basic but very important. Still, these two terms are not as common as they should be. Most of us do not use them frequently enough.

People say that they are too busy or too forgetful. It doesn’t matter how many times a day someone passes you a piece of paper – it deserves a ‘thank you’ every single time without fail or exception.

It doesn’t matter how many times you have to ask for the same thing – you always say ‘please’.

If someone does anything for you, no matter how mundane, trivial, repetitive, boring, or effortless, you should always say ‘thank you’.

You forget one time and you will be labeled as rude, boorish, and unpleasant. Make someone’s day and don’t forget, ‘please’, and ‘thank you’.

Practice Gratitude

The most important of the three keys to a happy life is gratitude. You have to practice being grateful for what you have in your life. It’s easy to be envious and jealous of other people’s success or happiness, but all that does is make you bitter, unhappy, and ungrateful. Instead, focus on what you have and learn to appreciate it.

Take a moment each day to write down at least three things that you are grateful for – this is just one of the ways that you can train yourself to be more appreciative. Being thankful and grateful will give you a whole new perspective on life. You will suddenly realize how many blessings there are in your life and that will make it much easier to be cheerful.

Conclusion

The end result of being cheerful is tremendous! It helps you to become a better person in all aspects of life – at work, in relationships, and even with yourself. Being cheerful will help you stay positive throughout tough times and also attract like-minded people towards you.

Supporting others will make them confident of your presence and also make you a valuable asset to the team. Practicing gratitude will improve the relationship with people around you, and also make you contented.
